About us

Across our 54-year history, Cancer Family Care (CFC) has established a reputation of excellence as a one-of-a-kind, easy-to-access mental health resource that provides critically need, therapeutic counseling and supportive services that benefit cancer patients and their families. CFC’s mission is to strengthen the well-being and alleviate the suffering of any child, adult, or family coping with cancer.

We fulfill this mission via beneficial, year-round programs:

  • The Center for Individual & Family Counseling (I&F), which facilitates private, personalized individual, couples, and family counseling sessions at CFC’s seven office locations and via telehealth, along with patient/family advocacy, information libraries, and more. I&F serves 800+ clients/year
  • Treehouse Children’s Services (Treehouse), which provides private, specialized school-based (individual, family, and group) and office-based (individual and family) counseling sessions to children ages 5-18, along with free supplemental programming/activities. Treehouse serves 500 children/year
  • The Coping Connection, which provides a free telephone hotline and online service for anyone coping with cancer. More than 1,200 Coping Connection clients are served each year
  • The Wig Program (Wigs), which provides free wigs/hair accessories to any woman coping with cancer-related hair loss. Private appointments are facilitated at CFC’s central office and walk-in service is available at our East Side office. Wigs serves 450 women/year and distributes 1,400 free wigs/hair accessories each year
  • The Waddell Family Healing Hands Program (Healing Hands), which provides free oncology massage, Healing Touch, Reiki, and acupuncture sessions to cancer patients and caregivers. Healing Hands provides healing comfort to 300 patients each year across 400 free sessions

The goal of CFC is to provide helpful, beneficial programs and services for cancer patients and families, and organizational objectives are to help clients (cancer patients and family members):

  • Improve management of cancer-related symptoms or the death of a loved one;
  • Get back to work/school and resume their normal lives more quickly;
  • Feel supported; and
  • Work toward staying mentally and emotionally healthy.
